Once the lines were in it was not to hard to put the tank back up and reattach the straps.

I used a floor jack with a couple of wide boards to drop the tank low enough to give to allow good enough access to install the new lines and that all went pretty quick. The filler tube is a dealer part but not to expensive.

I found that my filler tube was pretty rusty so I replaced it as well while I had everything opened up and used new stainless mounting screws. There are three sheet metal screws and clamp on the underside. There are 2 straps and 4 bolts that you will have easy access to which will release the tank from the chassis.ĭo not forget to release the filler tube from the fender. You really have no other option but to pull the fuel tank down at least part way. Then install it secured in the brackets that originally held the OE line.Īt this point my comments are really only good for anyone who might have this problem in the future. Also get the unions to connect the lengths in stainless from Classic Tube. The best thing to do is drop the tank, measure the line, then buy lengths of stainless steel line with the fittings and flares on the ends from Classic Tube, just like you would have done from NAPA. Plus without it secured there is a higher chance that movement of the unsecured line will damage the coating and the line will rust out faster.

I've never found aftermarket steel tubing that has as good of corrosion coating as the OE (which is not saying much). NAPA sells WeatherHead brake fittings and there are unions available for the 1/4" size you need. The easiest thing is to purchase lengths of tubing from NAPA that would allow you to go from the rear hose connection to the in line union in front of the fuel tank, plus about a foot extra. Unfortunately the line is not available from the Ford Dealer as a direct replacement, nor is there a stainless steel pre-bent replacement option.
